After a career in arts education and twenty five years as a practicing artist, I have developed a technique using Sankakuto cutting tools on Japanese vinyl block. This allows me to combine the woodcut-like intimacy of a miniature with the bold immediacy of large, starkly printed black on white or subtly coloured reduction lino-cuts.
The tales I tell are informed by careful research and attention to detail. Inspiration comes through exploring the imagined and real obsessions that define the structure of an often disturbing society. These are then realised and revealed through an intricate fretwork of surface pattern and design.
I have exhibited widely in the UK. I have also shown in New York and Kyoto, Japan, winning the East West Art Award Grand prize in 2013. In 2016 I was made an Associate Member of the Royal society of Painter/Printmakers. In 2019 my work was included in Professor Alan Male’s book ‘The Power and Influence of Illustration’.
